One annoyance is that it uses a 9V power supply that is the opposite polarity from just about everything else in the world, except 9V stage gear (effects pedals and the like) which for some reason consistently uses this reversed polarity. It does, and I elected to hard-wire the converter to the internal circuit (three wires - it's now purely USB output). I purchased in the hopes that it would work with a cheap MIDI-to-USB controller, because I have no way to use its native 15-pin D-sub "sound card MIDI" port. This is why I answered "no" to "Is the sound realistic?", because it has no sound on its own.
It's not a synth, it's just a MIDI controller.
